In support of the global vaccination start to combat the Corona pandemic, BITO launches an innovative temperature-controlled box to for storing and shipping sensitive pharmaceutical products

In cooperation with the Darmstadt-based start-up Tec4med Life Science GmbH, BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH has been working on the development of a digital high-performance transport box for shipping temperature sensitive medicines. The shipping box which is now going into production meets the distribution requirements for pharmaceutical products and also complies with the specific requirements for transporting Corona vaccines.

Tec4med have already launched their Nelumbox, a cooling system specifically approved for transporting and storing pharmaceuticals In cooperation with Tec4med, BITO-Lagertechnik has now developed a GDP-compliant solution suitable for storing medicines and vaccines with a wide range of temperature requirements.

Coinciding with the launch of the worldwide vaccination campaign to combat the Corona pandemic, BITO and Tec4med are able to present their new shipping box. "The newly developed system also meets the very specific Covid-19 vaccine temperature requirements," says Nico Höler, CEO of Tec4med. "Our product is the result of many years of expertise in logistics paired with our digital concepts that have been implemented in the pharmaceutical industry. We are pleased to present a high-performance shipping solution that suits temperature slots of -80°C, 2-8°C and 15-25°C and is able to keep these temperatures for more than 100 hours. At the same time, our solution is environmentally friendly, resource-saving and reusable. Perfect integration of the Internet of Things sets us apart from other competitors: seamless traceability of products within a supply chain in real time and a digital, theft-proof seal makes our product stand out among other solutions on the market in terms of both thermal and security aspects.

Christian Mohr, Product Manager of the Business Unit “Plastic Products” at BITO-Lagertechnik points out: "In the past, we were repeatedly contacted by the pharmaceutical sector requesting a shipping solution for temperature sensitive products. Among the many regulations that guarantee product safety, uninterrupted temperature control is a key requirement when transporting vaccines or medicines. Temperature compliance must be guaranteed and cold chains maintained. This is why we have already been doing extensive research in the field of process optimisation long before the pandemic. By using the opportunities of Industry 4.0, we developed a solution that allows to completely digitalise the logistics chain of pharmaceutical products while guaranteeing ongoing temperature monitoring. In collaboration with the start-up Tec4med, we have been able to launch a certified solution providing real-time data transfer that allows our customers to meet the strict and constantly rising requirements for the transport of medical supplies. In summary, it can be said that the newly developed solution ideally combines the competence of BITO-Lagertechnik as a long established company in the logistics sector with the knowledge of Tec4med as a young start-up in the area of the Internet of Things to meet the requirements in the pharmaceutical sector.”
