Our customer
The Schmersal group, headquartered in Wuppertal, Germany, designs and manufactures some 25,000 mechanical and electrosensitive switching devices, which is the largest range in the world for protecting staff and machinery. The product portfolio ranges from micro-switches and sensor-based solutions to heavy-duty switching devices. Drawing on their industry expertise and qualified service teams, the company also offers automation and safety systems for plants. Initial situation and customer requirements
- Our customer wanted to replace the unhandy mesh box pallets and heavy-weight steel containers in use by an alternative light-weight load carrier.
- The new load carrier must be easier to handle and provide a better filling degree than the mesh box pallets used to date.
- The solution must harmonise with the storage and transport equipment in use.
- The new large-volume boxes must have a high load carrying capacity and they must be durable to last for a long service life.

- Thanks to their smaller dimensions, the easy-to-handle BITO large-capacity plastic boxes are ideal for smaller batches, ensuring a more efficient and economic material flow within the production plant.

In what way has the BITO solution helped our customer to realise their full potential?
- Substantial gain of space in production and storage areas as the 800x600 mm format fits into small spaces and keeps storage costs low.
- The boxes can be stacked on Euro pallets to gain additional space. One European standard pallet can take two SL containers. There is no overhang as with mesh box pallets, which is why SL containers are also suitable for use in high-bay warehouses.
- BITO SL86 large volume containers can carry loads of up to 500 kg. They are made from durable plastic and are almost maintenance-free.
- SL Large volume containers have an ergonomic design and are user-friendly thanks to their jam-free half-drop door. The boxes are easy to handle, and ensure damage-free storage and convenient order picking. Products can be identified and accessed immediately. Empty SL86 containers can be moved without powered service vehicles.
