A bit of Material handling

BITO plans and implements the efficient flow of materials

The BITO portfolio offers a wide range of solutions to streamline your internal movement of material.

Roller conveyors and scissor conveyors

Roller conveyors and scissor conveyors with or without auxiliary motor are used to create extremely versatile conveyor systems for transporting goods in containers, cartons and on trays. The areas of application for roller conveyors cover various stages within a production process, from sorting, distribution and storage of raw materials to order picking at packing stations. They help to optimise the flow of goods during order picking or in production and, in particular, to increase throughput speed. The modular system allows to build extremely versatile conveyor lines that can be flexibly adapted to your building features. Various roller conveyor segments, curved sections and passageways are available, either with ready-mounted plastic or steel rollers.

Trolleys and dollies

Transporting materials and goods is part of everyday life in storage and operating environments. Heavy components, palletised loads or pallet boxes often have to be lifted and moved with hand pallet trucks or forklift trucks. Platform trucks and table trolleys are used in areas where conventional industrial trucks are not practicable. They are more flexible in that they can be used to replace stationary cabinets or boxes and provide mobile storage space on shelf levels. Shelf trolleys are used in a similar way as table trolleys. A table trolley is a more compact version and usually has a maximum of three to four shelf levels. They are used for a wide range of applications, from transporting files to food transport in canteens or any other load on company grounds. Shelf trolleys, on the other hand, are specifically designed for transporting handling bins, open-fronted storage bins and C-item containers. There is no strict distinction between the different trolley types. For example, bin trolleys can also be used as order picking trolley or for supplying materials in production and assembly processes. Dollies are particularly practical for transporting pallets, boxes or other items over short distances. They help to minimise the need for industrial trucks.

Pallet trucks and lift tables

Hand pallet trucks, scissor lifts as well as forklift trucks are all used for the safe movement of palletised goods and pallet boxes in demanding conditions. Scissor lift tables are particularly suitable for the safe raising of items and in-feeding of loads into a system. The BITO offer includes a wide range of technical equipment for lifting and transporting materials.

Containers for powered conveyors and automated warehouses

BITO offers several types of containers suitable for use on conveyors and automated warehouses. BITO containers have been designed for smooth and quiet operation and ergonomic handling. They have a high capacity and our nesting and folding containers save a lot of space when not in use. Examples of containers that are suitable for this purpose include KLT small parts containers, Euro stacking containers, MB multi-trip containers, EQ folding boxes and, in particular, our XLmotion container series. The XLmotion box has been specifically designed for automated warehouses. They feature a flat-surfaced double base with a non-textured outer tread to minimise noise during automated handling. As a result, workplace ergonomics in automated warehouses can be significantly improved. XLmotion containers come in modular dimensions and have a very large filling volume. They are also available with water drainage holes which are particularly suitable for installations that have  sprinkler systems fitted.

Automated pallet racking, miniload systems, live storage racks

Conveyor solutions (some of them automated) are also used in racking systems. Live storage racking can be equipped with gravity roller lanes or with powered roller lanes. Automated pallet racking systems or small parts warehouses are serviced with discontinuous conveyors such as shuttle carriers or storage and retrieval machines (SRMs). Of course, storage installations can be linked with each other and with workstations by infeed and discharge conveyors such as roller conveyors and conveyor belts. BITO will be pleased to plan and implement the optimal racking system for your intralogistics processes in cooperation with your team.

BITO LEO AGVs

The LEO transporter family from BITO was designed for automated in-house transport of bins and cardboard boxes. It provides an optimum solution for automating your material flows. It is particularly user-friendly and does not require a host computer or a WLAN connection. The battery-operated LEO AGV is plug & play-capable and follows a colour-coded adhesive tape track on the hall floor. The control commands for the BITO AGV are transmitted via markers (QR codes) on the hall floor, enabling precise and efficient control. LEO links assembly stations and picking stations in intralogistics and production areas of your company. The system consists of one or more LEO AGVs and can be extended with any number of transfer stations to ensure the seamless integration into your operational processes. The LEO system also impresses with its very low acquisition costs.

What role does efficient material handling play in intralogistics?

As your partner, BITO plans and implements efficient intralogistics processes and we offer a wide range of material handling solutions.

The correct material handling equipment will improve the flow of materials

The field of intralogistics deals with efficient material and information flows in companies. This includes the optimisation of warehouse processes, goods transport, inventory management and the integration of information technologies in order to enable smooth processes within a company. A wide range of conveyors is available to ensure trouble-free transport of goods and materials. There are two main categories: Continuous conveyors and discontinuous conveyors

Continuous conveyors

Continuous conveyors are advanced transport systems that move materials in a steady flow. Examples include belt conveyors, roller conveyors and gravity conveyors. These systems are particularly effective for transporting bulk goods and palletised loads in continuous production processes where the steady replenishment of goods is required.

Discontinuous conveyors

Discontinuous conveyors are transport systems used to move goods or materials on demand. These include forklift trucks, cranes, pallet trucks and driverless transport systems (AGVs). These systems stand out for their flexibility and are ideal for transporting individual items. They can be used for a variety of warehousing tasks where precise movement and adaptability are required. Discontinuous transport systems can be adapted to specific requirements to suit a wide range of intralogistics challenges.

Combination of both types of conveyors

In practice, a combination of continuous and discontinuous conveying systems is used in many intralogistics processes. This enables optimum customisation to the specific requirements of a company. For example, belt conveyors ensure a continuous flow of goods and materials in a production process, while forklift trucks or driverless transport systems enable the flexible movement of pallets or bulky goods between different areas. The intelligent integration of continuous and discontinuous material handling systems plays a key role in maximising efficiency, reducing downtimes and optimising overall intralogistics processes. By using different conveying solutions, companies can successfully meet the challenges of their specific material flow requirements.
