Our customer

BRIEM Speditions GmbH is a medium-sized, third-generation owner-managed family business that has developed from a traditional shipping company into a leading logistics services provider and partner for customers from a wide range of industries. The company focuses on storage and distribution of hazardous substances. Today, BRIEM specialises in process management and organises complex, customized logistics projects with a focus on optimising processes and transport routes. Continuous innovations and inventions enable BRIEM to offer their customers a very diverse range of services. Sustainable commitment and the optimal location along the A8 motorway, the B27 highway and the Stuttgart airport have made the company one of the most renowned in the Baden-Württemberg region. After BRIEM won two major customer tenders, it was necessary to expand the existing warehouse capacity. The company has therefore built a new logistics facility on an open space of 7,000 m² at its headquarters in Filderstadt. At the same time, BRIEM established a second site in the industrial area of Münsingen, where a new logistics centre was built on an area of 11,000 m². Both facilities were designed in cooperation with BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH to meet the specific requirements of BRIEM customers. In each case, the strategy was to use standard solutions from the BITO portfolio, for reasons of efficiency and to avoid structural problems. In addition, it was important to adapt both pallet racking systems to European size pallets in order to comply with standards and be compatible with customer requirements.

Initial situation and customer requirements

    • A new logistics facility was built at the main site in Filderstadt, which is connected to the existing facility. At the same time, a second site with a new logistics centre was built 45 km away in the industrial park in Münsingen.
    • The construction of two facilities of this size was a major challenge for the user, which is why a truly competent and reliable partner was needed.
    • Both systems had to be customised to the specific requirements of BRIEM customers. Their customer portfolio is very diverse, with customers from the food industry as well as from the mechanical engineering sector.
    • As there were no technical possibilities for automation, the picking line in the new logistics facility in Filderstadt had to be replenished manually and the area had to be designed accordingly.
    • BRIEM also specializes in the storage and logistics of hazardous goods, which again means that very specific requirements such as fire protection regulations had to be met.
    • Existing storage capacities had to be expanded.

The BITO Solution

  • »Both systems were designed together with BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH to specifically meet the special requirements of the customers served by the logistics services provider BRIEM.

  • »The strategy for each system was to use standard solutions from the BITO portfolio to increase efficiency and to avoid structural design problems.

  • »The building is divided into hall sections, each with 1,536 storage positions, which are subdivided into fire protection areas and multi-purpose areas.

  • »Both pallet racking systems are designed to store European size pallets in order to comply with industry standards and to be compatible with all BRIEM customers.

  • »In order to meet the wide range of customer requirements, the logistics facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art warehousing technology and the relevant storage, picking and transportation systems.

On-site application

    • Both logistics facilities cater for a wide range of customer requirements.
    • Optimal use of the new logistics facility with a focus on hazardous materials storage
    • Site expansion with a new logistics facility in Filderstadt
    • Clever, intelligent and cost-effective solutions and a great deal of ingenuity

Customer benefits

    • Efficient use of space thanks to narrow aisle storage and full use of the building height.
    • For small parts storage and order picking, BITO designed a budget friendly and efficient solution for BRIEM using customised shelf trolleys instead of an initially planned costly paternoster system.
    • Efficient use of space thanks to narrow aisle storage and full use of the building height.
    • The building is divided into hall sections, each with 1,536 storage positions, which are subdivided into fire protection areas and multi-purpose areas.
    • In the hazardous goods area, the facility is equipped with the necessary safety precautions and fire protection devices for storing hazardous goods and highly explosive hazardous substances.
    • The multi-purpose area can be used for various value-added services such as returns management, order picking, order collation and packaging.
    • In Filderstadt, the existing logistics centre was expanded to include a new logistics facility, which is connected to the existing facility by a transit corridor.
    • This is where classic storage, retrieval and order picking operations are carried out.
    • In addition, other value-added services such as inspection, packaging or labeling of goods.
    • Storage areas with different temperature zones (21°C, up to +27°C and from +2 to +8 °C) for storing food products.

What our customers say

“It was not just the products and solutions from BITO-Lagertechnik that convinced us, BITO also won on the sympathy scale. They don’t just want to sell their products, but provided pro-active support and came up with great ideas and concepts. We have felt very well taken care of and as part of a dream team throughout the entire planning and construction phase. In the course of implementing both construction projects, we learned more about warehousing than in our years at university. We would choose BITO again and again if we were to build another logistics facility.”
